There’s no such thing as British design
There’s no such thing as British design
Justin McGuirk reports in the Guardian that the London Design festival proves that the best design breaks down international borders – that’s what makes the city’s cultural scene unique. But are things really that simple? Lowie Vermeersch, the Belgian design director of Pininfarina, told me once that Italian design is often not...

Medical design: Robrady and Xhale’s lifesaving HyGreen handwashing system
An HAI is a nasty bit of business: That stands for Hospital Acquired Infection, and what’s worse than going into a place of healing and picking up a new sickness? Counterintuitive product design: A light that helps you get to sleep
I often joke that my lawyer friend Logan’s stories are so boring, hospitals could use him as a powerful anaesthetic and sleep aid. I’ve never had any problems sleeping at night, but if I did I’d record one of his “amusing anecdotes” and put the iPod on repeat by the end table. One person who did have trouble sleeping...
"Design Thinking" Today
Though the phrase “Design Thinking” has been gaining in popularity for the better part of the last decade, it really entered the mainstream design vernacular last year with the introduction of several articles and books on the topic from designers and educators such as Tim Brown, Roger Martin, Roberto Verganti and Harmut Esslinger. Unfortunately,...
