February 26th, 2010 admin

According to MONCHRON project page they “wanted to make a clock that was ultra-hackable, from adding a separate battery-backed RTC to designing the enclosure so you could program the clock once its assembled.” It includes a ATmega328 processor (with’Arduino’ stk500 bootloader for easy hacking). It’s completely open source hardware, all firmware, layout and CAD files are yours to mess with . (more…)

The financial markets plummeted last year. So we had a choice: tell the world how horrible is was or tell them what to do next. We decided to take the constructive approach. Investors like SPDR ETFs because they’re more precise than other investments. To highlight the benefits of precision, this commercial shows a town that runs like clockwork...

Art Lebedev Studio’s analog-plus-digital Segmentus clock
If there’s one design studio that continually astounds us, it’s Art Lebedev Studio, the firm that always seems to be able to put a different and compelling spin on the mundane. ALS has done it again with their Segmentus clock , which puts old-school analog clock hands into the slightly-less-old-school segmented digital clock format:...

(Sidenote: Morgan is looking for a producer for this idea. Any takers?) (more…)  Read More →

Sun warms up to the Sony Dash alarm clock
The morning sun is personified as a chubby dude with head and hands ablaze in 180 L.A.’s introductory spot (below) for the Sony Dash bedside device. Flame Face is goofy and scary at the same time as he keeps setting some guy’s suit on fire. ( The Jimmy Dean guy in the sun costume is much less threatening.) “Wake up in a whole new...
